Anhydrous Aluminium Chloride in Bulk

Anhydrous aluminium chloride is the classic Friedel Crafts catalyst and remains the standard Lewis acid for alkylation and acylation across the dye, fragrance and pharmaceutical industries. Its reactivity is also its hazard: it reacts violently with water, fuming hydrogen chloride, so it has to be kept absolutely dry from drum to reactor. Safety, Handling and Compliance

Contact with water or even humid air causes a violent exothermic reaction releasing hydrogen chloride gas. Drums must never be opened in damp conditions.
