Hydrochloric Acid in Bulk

Hydrochloric acid is the cheapest strong mineral acid and the default choice wherever a chloride residue is acceptable. It pickles steel, regenerates cation resin, corrects pH and dissolves scale, all at a cost per equivalent that sulphuric acid only occasionally beats. Concentration and iron content are stated on the batch Certificate of Analysis. Commercial grade carries a yellow tinge from iron; LR grade is water-white.

Safety, Handling and Compliance

HCl is highly corrosive and fumes strongly. The vapour attacks metal fittings across the room, not just the equipment it touches.

• Store in HDPE or FRP tanks, never bare metal
• Use goggles, face shield, apron and acid-resistant gloves
• Always add acid to water, never the reverse
• Keep away from alkalis, cyanides and oxidisers, and ventilate well
• End-use declaration required under precursor control rules
